Search Engine Optimisation
Pagelocker will dynamically produce and expanded url for each page to promote better logging and facilitate Google sitemaps. For example, the url for the Intranets and Extranets page of this website would be 'www.pseltd.com/pagelocker_applications/intranets_and_extranets/' . This gives a much clearer understanding of the page's content than something like 'www.pseltd.com/intr_extr.aspx'.
The CMS system will allow META tags to be edited on pages for search engine optimisation and content will be W3C compliant. Standard header tags (H1, H2, etc) will be used wherever possible to maximise accessibility and content indexing.
PSE applications are built using semantic markup, external style sheets and follow all other WCAG 2.0 guidelines to level AA. Since these guidelines ensure that web content is clear, correctly laid out and all links and images have relevant descriptions it stands to reason that search engines rank compliant pages higher, thus improving ratings. Search engines look for content-rich pages where the keyword searched is prominent, thereby providing the user with as much relevant information as possible in the hits they display. PSE use this knowledge to combine WCAG compliance with prioritising keywords within key content such as headers, links and image alt text.
